What to see before the Winter Arts Festival ends

What to see before the Winter Arts Festival ends

Rain, thunder, lightning, okay so winter is definitely here. If you haven’t made it out the door to an event yet here are a few you should definitely consider before the festival ends.

Winter Supper Club

HeldĀ in the Undercroft at the Perth Town Hall the Supper Club provides an array of international treats as well asĀ live music.Ā At the preview I had one of the best pumpkin soups ever, particularly since it was served in a bread roll.

After the soup came the main course. Hot pancakes cooking on a BBQ and servedĀ with tomato, red onions, sour creamĀ and a fresh green salad.

Dessert choice wasĀ an apple tart with caramel sauce from patisserie Bon Bon Cakes.

TheĀ Supper ClubĀ is on the last Friday of every winter month starting at 5.00pm.

Winter Arts Bar

I have vague memories of the walk, quickly, through the underpass on St George’s Terrace to get to the Perth Concert Hall. It was a neat trick coming up on the other side of the road. I had no idea it’d been closedĀ although, having felt the need to walk quickly on theĀ odd occasion,Ā IĀ can imagine there could have been some difficulties hidden in it’s history. I was thrilled to hear that it has been transformed into an Arts Bar during the festival. What an utterly brilliant idea. I can’t wait to go down there one Friday night and check it out the art installations and live performances.Ā I’m sure there’ll be some fun memories flooding back. They’re even going to hold a Glow Yoga class there. The Arts Bar is on Friday nights during July and August.

Lighthouse 2016 and Winter Lights at Brookfield Place

Last yearĀ it wasĀ a complete fluke thatĀ I sawĀ the Brookfield building lit up. This year I’m going to make sure I stop by and watch the lightshow. If you drive down the Terrace at about 9pm on a weeknight it’s quite easy to stop at the red traffic lights and catch the show. If you happen to miss it then Council House is another building that will be on show.

Other events

There are too many other events to name but a couple more I’d check out are: Barefaced Stories; Windows of the City; Disrupted Festival of Ideas and the Literary High Tea.

As I read through the program I pondered:

  1. Why do so many good events always get crammed into a short timeframe?
  2. HopefullyĀ some of the initiatives might be kept on after the festival, like theĀ Supper Club, the reopened tunnel and Council House light show.
  3. What a brilliant idea to serve soup in a bread roll, no washing up and no evidence left behind, hmm how can I do the same thing with chocolate?
  4. Congratulations and thanks to City of Perth and everyone involved in putting on another great festival, I can’t imagine the additional logistics required to put on a festival during the winter months.
