No doubt like me you’ve noticed that things are getting smaller, phones, cameras, houses, even pets. I mean have you seen a Great Dane lately, I haven’t? Great Danes seem to have made way for miniature breeds that fit into handbags, rendering the idea of ‘walkies’ totally irrelevant. While we could ponder the demise of the Great Dane or the Red Setter for that point, there’s something far more demanding to ponder today.

World’s Smallest Car Park © 2013 The Ponder Room

It’s no secret that Perth’s traffic problem is not abating, and that Councils have been developing various strategies to get us out from behind the wheel and onto public transport. Increased parking fees for inner city car parks is one such strategy. The other day I saw something that left me pondering whether the town planners had finally gone too far, it appeared to be … the world’s smallest car park?
Imagine you’ve driven up to the boom gate in your Hyundai Getz, Holden Commodore or BMW. You’ve pressed the button, taken the ticket and waited for the arm to lift. As soon as it’s raised you’ve moved through an inch, only to come face to face with a blue pillar, while the boom gate thuds down onto the back of your car.
Surely, I ponder …
- This has to be the World’s Smallest Car Park.
- Thank god you didn’t bring the Hummer.
- What’s next?
