Movie Review: Four Letters Of Love

While the superb cast will get you through the door, the tender story will have you, like me, urging others to go see the movie, Four Letters Of Love.

Four Letters Of Love

Isabel Gore (Ann Skelly) leads an idyllic life on a picturesque Irish Island, with her mother Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter), father Muiris (Gabriel Byrne) and brother (Donal Finn). One day her life changes forever when her brother is injured after accepting her dare.

Hoping to give Isabel a better education her parents send her to a convent school on the mainland, something that doesn’t sit well with the headstrong Isabel. One the way she crosses paths with Nicholas Coughlan (Fionn O’Shea) though neither realize the significance at the time.

Nicholas lives a modest life with his mother Bette (Imelda May) and father William (Pierce Brosnan). Day in day out William sits behind an office desk until one day as the sunlight streams through the office window, he receives a divine calling. He stands, walks home and declares he’s dedicating himself to painting. Time moves forward and still unfulfilled, William leaves his family to paint at the coast.

Nicholas and Isabel move through their difficult lives until one of WIlliam’s paintings and one of Muiris’s poems sees their lives collide again.

As the audience wiped their eyes I pondered:

  1. As you would expect the ensemble cast does a fabulous job;
  2. It’s not too often that I want a soundtrack but the lyrical music would sit very well in our house on a lazy Sunday morning:
  3. The movie will have you fulling invested urging the characters to hurry up or miss the love of their life;
  4. It will have you pondering whether everything is already written;
  5. A heartwarming movie about destiny, divine intervention, moments, the power of love and that “love doesn’t pass, it changes shape”.

For more information go to Luna Cinemas. Starts July 24. There’s a special morning tea on Sunday July 17 at Windsor and Luna on SX.
