Kangaroo is a heartwarming family movie based on a true story and set on a stunning background worthy of an Australian tourism Ad.

The movie is based on real life Kangaroo angle Chris Masterman. I remember watching him years ago and am so pleased his story is being told.
In the movie Chris Masterman (Ryan Corr) is a television weatherman who after an unfortunate incident with a baby dolphin finds himself out of work and cancelled. His only job offer sees him driving across Australia for a potential new position.
Somewhere outside Alice Springs he hits a kangaroo and becomes stranded. His despair intensifies when he realises the roo has a joey.
Meanwhile 12-year-old Indigenous girl Charlie (Lily Whiteley) is playing hooky from school and sees the accident. While helping Chris she informs him that local law means he must look after the joey.
As Chris waits for his car to be repaired his friendship with Charlie grows, as does his love for the small community. Life for Chris, Charlie and the little joey is about to undergo a dramatic shift.
As we wiped our eyes at the end of the movie I pondered:
- The Australian outback truly is a uniquely stunning place;
- The movie has a plethora of well-known Australian actors including Roy Billing, Ernie Dingo, Deborah Mailman, Rachel House and Brooke Satchwell. There’s even a cameo from Grant Denyer;
- Kangaroo is a lovely feel-good movie, perfect for the whole family;
- It’s also a reminder of what a special man Chris Masterman is.
