My Brother’s Band movie starts and ends with music. In between is a tender and funny story about separated brothers
We first meet conductor Thibaut (Benjamin Lavernhe) in his happy place in front of his highly acclaimed orchestra. Caught up in the moment, the intensity gets the better of him and he collapses. Medical tests show he’s in serious trouble and will need a donor. No problem he’s sure his sister will help. And therein lies the problem.
DNA tests open up a whole new chapter when Thibaut finds out he’s adopted. His sister can’t help.
But then he finds out he has a younger brother, Jimmy (Pierre Lottin).
Working in a school cafeteria Jimmy lives a life far from the bright lights, adulation and hotels of his famous brother. Will he help this stranger, his brother?
As the audience clapped I pondered:
- The movie touches on family, adoption, ambition and talent;
- The story moves slowly however then end is well worth the wait. There will be tears and not for the reason you think;
- Both actors do a great job portraying moving family dynamics;
- Newcomer Lottin is one to watch.
